About Me

Hi! My name is Emily, I also go by Eric sometimes!

I am a programmer with an interest in all things game dev. I enjoy challenging puzzles, debating methods and madness', and of course I LOVE playing games.

When I'm not playing my new addiction of a video game, I do enjoy trying new food and hobbies frequently, finding cool nerdy places like board game cafes, watching anime or funny videos on youtube, trying my hand at various forms of art, or hanging out with people I enjoy.

My least favorite kinds of music are country, and rap. My Favorite kinds of music are Rock and Electronic.
I am great with kids, I even studied to be an Early Childhood Educator for a while. Ironically, I don't want my own kids.

I have a particular interest in VR game development, I believe it has a massive amount of untapped potential for amazing experiences, even with the limited VR technology we have currently.

I have strong confidence in my ability to learn, and an eagerness to work on challenging projects! I hope to work with all kinds of talented people some day!

Text-Based-RPG

I worked on this C++ console application with my friend and colleague Riley Humber. As our first ever project fully coded from scratch, we created a text-based RPG with multiple endings, an inventory system, turn based combat, and character customization! This project was very challenging for me, but I am proud that my first real project was a success.

I give a lot of credit to Riley for being able to translate my mess of thoughts into code on the page when I go on rants about how we could make things work. It felt overwhelming to go straight into such a large project, but finishing it feels like a huge accomplishment for my learning.

Space Jammer

Space Jammer is my top down space shooter in Unity. I've built everything in it myself, with the exception of the music, though I'm considering making some of my own for it.

In this game, you play as a space pilot who does space things, like taking space missions from space stations, and recieving space credits for your space hard work. Though currently the only thing to do is shoot space rocks, collect them, trade them for space money to get space upgrades, and then defeat a space boss.

I'm actually really happy with how this project is coming along, it's still in an awkward early growth stage, but I'm confident it will become very interesting very soon.

Familia Demo

Familia is my first foray into a mainly design orriented project! This was quite a challenge for me actually, I had no idea it was so hard to design every little piece of a level. It was a lot of fun though, I used Horror Engine for most of the functionality of various events, and Quixel for most of the visual assets. Everything about the level and the story is all by me though!

I really love how Unreal just looks amazing with just a few tweaks to lighting, and a few good models and textures! I plan on getting some people together to fully voice act the story, as well as making a much more expansive game out of the ideas I've put forth!

YAR!!!

YAR is a fun little game various classmates and I made in Unreal Engine. The objective of the game is to jump around and collect all the coins before arriving at the end of the platforming levels, and claiming the treasure chest of gold!

I actually really enjoy how this game plays, I lead my team in staying on task, and we managed to get a surprising amount done in a short time! It was a great introduction to Unreal Engine!

This Portfolio!

Web development isn't my first choice, but I had a lot of fun making this once I figured out how everything worked and what tools were available to me. The behind the scenes in front-end dev is really interesting. I find it Very entertaining to make my own CSS tags, mixing and matching, playing around a little, playing is one of the best ways to learn!

HTML, CSS, Javascript, Bootstrap, I don't claim to know it all, but I've certainly learned how to use all of them!

You don't get the secrets

Asteroids

Asteroids

Asteroids is an old vector graphics arcade game. Using SDL, myself and the previously mentioned Riley(RJ), rebuilt Asteroids from scratch!

This iteration of the game has moving, shooting, asteroids splitting and spawning, lives and score accurately displayed, and the lovely title screen.
